The three AZ-900 domains, and where the marks are
Microsoft publishes a weighting for each AZ-900 skill area. Our 200-question bank covers all three, and puts the most questions into Architecture & Services, the domain with the most marks on the exam.
| Domain | Exam weighting | Questions to drill |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud Concepts | 25–30% | 49 |
| Azure Architecture & Services | 35–40% | 88 |
| Management & Governance | 30–35% | 63 |
Cloud Concepts checks that you can reason about the cloud model itself: the shared responsibility model; public, private and hybrid clouds; consumption-based pricing and the shift from capital to operational expenditure; high availability, scalability, elasticity and reliability; and the IaaS, PaaS and SaaS service types.
Azure Architecture & Services is the largest domain and the most service-specific. Expect questions on regions, region pairs and availability zones; subscriptions, management groups and resource groups; compute options (virtual machines, scale sets, App Service, containers and Functions); networking (virtual networks, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, DNS); storage accounts, redundancy and access tiers; and identity and security with Microsoft Entra ID, multi-factor authentication, Conditional Access, Zero Trust and defence in depth.
Management & Governance tests the tools that keep an Azure estate under control: cost management, the pricing calculator and tags; Azure Policy, resource locks and Microsoft Purview; the portal, Cloud Shell, CLI, PowerShell, Azure Arc and infrastructure as code; and monitoring with Azure Advisor, Service Health and Azure Monitor.
A drill routine that actually raises your score
- Take a full AZ-900 mock test first, and note your weakest domain from the results breakdown.
- Drill 10 questions in that domain. After each one, say out loud why each wrong option is wrong. On AZ-900 the distractors are usually real Azure services that solve a slightly different problem.
- When the same pair keeps catching you, read the matching concept guide, then drill again.
- Move on when you reach 80% or more in the domain on two separate days, then confirm with another full mock test under the 65-minute timer.
Pairs that cost candidates the most marks
- Availability zones vs region pairs: protection within a region vs across regions (guide).
- Azure RBAC vs Azure Policy: who can do something vs what is allowed to exist (guide).
- LRS, ZRS, GRS and GZRS: how many copies are kept, and where (guide).
- IaaS vs PaaS vs SaaS: how much of the stack you still manage (guide).
One scoring note. The real exam reports a scaled score out of 1,000 with 700 to pass, which is not the same as 70% correct. Our drills use 70% as a practical target, and the full mock tests show the scaled score as well.
